A long night out.

A trip to Leicester to pick my partner up turned into a very long night. I've lived in Leicestershire most of life but have hardly ever driven into the city centre so armed with Google maps me and the X5 headed for the cities bright lights.

After a spirited drive down the M1 and getting lost on the inner ring road we arrived in the center. Some very sketchy directions and diversions meant I was going round in circles when I noticed the cabin of the X5 felt alot warmer than the temperature set on the climate control!

A quick look down at the temperature gauge in the red! Look up and steam was blasting out of the bonnet........bugger!

I managed to find a side street and parked up with the dashboard telling me the engine was overheating, coolant low and low oil pressure. I set out on foot to find her.

Once back at the X5 the temperature gauge had dropped but now the engine started but cutout straight away hmmmm..........

I went to the RAC website and booked a breakdown patrol. Advised it could be 3 hours before a patrol would be available I put my partner in a taxi home while I waited.

After half an hour I received a call from the man from RAC advising he was 5 minutes away. Before long the bright orange van slowly pulled up behind the X5.

I told the patrol man what had happened he lifted the bonnet "yep smells hot" he then spent 10 minutes reading the fault codes and then advised me " the engine has overheated " yep I guessed that and then told me " your too heavy for the van to tow and I'll have to book you a recovery wagon which won't be with you till the morning"

The recovery wagon was booked, the fault codes cleared allowed me to back the X5 down the street to a parking bay and I was left in Leicester City centre for the night.

To Be Continued....
