Let there be light

One thing I have noticed with a lot of cars built in the past 25 years is cloudy head lights. As the head light lenses are made of plastic and not glass. Over the years of having road grime splashed all over them and constant exposure to the suns UV rays the plastic lenses start to look a little cloudy.

I had noticed the head lights on the X5 were starting to look a little dull and cloudy. New or second hand were out of the questions as they were too expensive. I look on Amazon had many many options of diy head light restoring kits. Too keep with the budget theme i ordered the cheapest!

The brown Amazon box duly arrived with my new head light restoring kit in it. I was greeted with a plastic package which when opened had a instruction card, various grades of sand paper, polisher and polish and some anti UV coating.

I first wiped the head lights down before applying some masking tape to the surrounding paint work to protect it. You then rub the headlight all over with sandpaper working though the grades low to high, a quick wipe over before applying the polish to the drill pad and using a cordless drill on a slow setting to work the polish over the head light trying to keep it wet to avoid burning the lens.

The head lights looked good but there was one last step. I cleaned the head lights again before carefully using the sponge in the kit to apply the anti UV coating.

I was impressed with the results just takes a while.

Time will tell how long the headlights will stay clear
